Wunderman Welcomes Next Generation of Advertising Stars
NEW YORK, July 31, 2009–For eight weeks this summer, Wunderman’s New York office played host to 18 students as they immersed themselves in the world of advertising.
Wunderman’s annual summer intern program provides students from throughout the United States the opportunity to explore the world of advertising from the inside. The interns work alongside account planners, creative teams and account management to gain first hand knowledge of how an advertising agency works. Many of the “graduates” of the summer internship program return to Wunderman post-college graduation as full-time employees.
The Wunderman internship culminates in the presentation to actual clients. This year two groups presented concepts for products and services based on actual consumer insights to Citibank. The challenge was to generate interest in financial services in recent college graduates. The interns devised Hello I Need, an integrated campaign and Digital Wallet, a technology-based solution to finance management.
Hello I Need tackles generation Y’s lack of experience and comfort with banking head on with an integrated campaign that featured events, social media, and outdoor media. The hypothetical pre-buzz launch of Hello I Need even features pop-up stations that give hugs!
The Digital Wallet team looked at creating a financial services product that unclutters a cluttered world. The tool eliminates multiple loyalty cards by digitally replicating pertinent information. Other functions allow you to read account balances automatically and allocate funds to specific budgets. The marketing plan for Digital Wallet was as equally bold as the product with a non-traditional social media approach.
The interns also demonstrated their creative prowess, generating a pro bono ad for the annual golf outing in support of Ice Hockey in Harlem, a non-profit after school program.
